Upload Large Files

Issue

A file needs to be uploaded to Gensolve, but it is too large.

Reason

The current upload limit per file is 8MB for all files including images. When properly compressed, documents should average approximately 100-200KB per A4 page.

Solution

Image files (such as X-Rays)

Gensolve recommends Fast Image Resizer.

Fast Image Resizer application is a simple, free software tool which allows you to resize any image to the desired file size. To download Fast Image Resizer, click here.

Note: If you need help installing and using the software, please contact the Gensolve Support Desk for assistance.

MS Word Documents (such as Word and Excel)

To save office documents with the best image compression, follow the steps below:

  1. Locate the first image in the document, and click on it to display the Format tab in the top ribbon.
  2. On the Format tab, click Compress Pictures.
  3. On the Compression Settings pop up:
  • Select Automatically perform basic compression on save
  • Select Delete cropped areas of pictures
  • Select Email (96 ppi).

    4. Click OK.

    5. Save the document as normal - the images will be compressed.

For PDF documents

A third party application called CutePdf may be used to reduce the size of PDF files. Download it from http://www.cutepdf.com/ and click on the Free Download link.

Once installed, select Print then select the "Cute PDF Writer" printer option instead of your usual printer. This doesn't print the document but saves the PDF to a specified folder on your computer.

Saving the PDF using CutePdf appears to reduce the size of the file significantly. You can also split your PDF into multiple and smaller parts by choosing to "print" a range of pages (p1-10 for example).
